Colors According to Google Books

Here’s something I did just to see how it would turn out. I took a list of about 90 one-word color terms (“red”, “blue”, “beige”, “mauve”, “magenta”, and so forth), not including “white” and “black”, because they account for about half of all color words used. I then colored the squares in the image below according to how frequently each term was used as an adjective in U.S. English language books published between 1990 and 2005.

I got the frequency information for this from Google Book’s Ngram data sets.
