A Matter of Perspective

I saw this wonderful idea a few weeks back. An organization in the Philippines called ‘Liter of Light‘ is taking old soda bottles, filling them with water and installing them in the roofs of buildings. They do nothing at night, but in the daytime they act as little skylights, lighting up the interior space without the need for electricity.

At about the same time I also found this idea on This Old House’s website of Home Inspection Nightmares. A homeowner whose wastewater pipe had a hole in it plugged that hole with an old soda bottle.

Doing one of these is a brilliant innovation that reuses a piece of garbage for a wonderful new purpose. Doing the other makes you a redneck.
