The Rise of the Contented Class

I saw this list in a book by Seth Godin. He said that Richard Florida (author of books like The Rise of the Creative Class) polled 20,000 creative professionals and found the top factors that motivated them to do best work. They are:

1. challenge and responsibility

2. flexibility

3. stable work environment

4. money

5. professional development

6. peer recognition

7. stimulating colleagues

8. exciting job content

9. organizational culture

10. location and community

It occurred to me that many of these factors (or analogous concepts) are what make people happy outside of work as well. Power over your own life, flexibility, stability of home environment, etc.
